So, as you probably know there are fires all over southern California. A week ago, before the fires started, Kristin and I are talking to various Santa Monica natives we know, who would exclaim something like “Wow, feel that Santa Ana wind!” Kristin and I, being the un-impressible New Yorkers we have been during our immediate past, would arrive home and say things like “OOOooooh, the Santa Anas blew my skirt up!” thinking that Santa Monica people were generally spoiled by the good weather here and had a sort of weather-based hypochondria going on. There is other evidence for this perception. Several weeks ago on the evening weather report, the weatherman said: “As all Angelinos know, it’s slippery when it’s wet out there, so if you don’t have to go out tonight, please, for your safety, stay indoors.” This at a slight drizzle of rain.
In any case, fast forward a week to now when there are [[[2007 California Fires]]] springing up all over the place and the root cause (aside from some idiot arsonists) are the [[[Santa Ana Winds]]]. Needless to say, Kristin and I feel like calloused fools for all our comments making fun of everyone’s reactions to the wind.
