Last night was Thyra and Mick’s wedding. It was very nice. The pastor gave a great sermon about how although we were sitting in “paradise,” paradise doesn’t really exist here on earth, noting the week’s death and the poverty surrounding the resort. Having not been there, I’m sure that sounds very morbid to you, oh reader, but it was nice in that he tied it into what was necessary for a marriage. There is no paradise in marriage, although the illusion of paradise is often held up to marriages in oh-so-many happy-ending Hollywood flicks. Marriage takes work just like everything else. It was a wise sermon.

Before the wedding, Kristin and I were talking to Mick, and he informed us that the reason they canceled the evening cruise the other day wasn’t because of rough waters, but because two earlier cruise boats crashed into each other and sank and about 8 other people died then. Then he commented, “This place is an f-ing death trap. I cannot wait to get outta here!” Paradise, indeed.

The reception was gorgeous with a view of the setting sun and the crashing waves. Grilled lobster, steak, and chicken with a variety of pasta dishes and many drinks and many more freestyle tunes than I’ve ever been forced to listen to in one sitting in my life. (Freestyle? Where oh where did you go wrong, New York and Miami? Why did you give spawn to this music and make it appear on MTV every so often when I was young, scaring me with its awfulness.) Fortunately, they played some non-freestyle music too and Kristin and I got to dance a bit.

We had a good time, but today, we’re definitely ready to go home. Tomorrow is travel day, but all day today, we’ve been done with the sun and the beach and the all-inclusivenes of this all-inclusive. Fortunately, my shoulder feels a 100% better today than it did yesterday, though there is still some pain. I think I’ll be back at full speed in a few days. I suspect Dossy was correct in his comment yesterday that my shoulder probably popped out of socket and back in and is just feeling the pain from that. It feels like when you put a shirt on when you’re wet and the sleeve has twisted about the arm uncomfortably… as if my muscles in the shoulder had done that and are just now straightening out.

One cool thing about the week is that I’ve read 3 books. It’s been a while since I’ve been in the habit of reading much that wasn’t online, but I feel like I’ve rekindled my reading motor, which is good. I also have an idea for some writing of my own.

What’s really cool is that I’ve read all 3 of the books I read on my Sony Portable Reader. They were all ebooks in e-ink on e-paper. All of the close to 2000 pages I read were small and light in this little cool gadget that weighs so little.

In any case, that’s all for my personal musings for today. I’m looking forward to getting back to full speed with Mahalo next week. The team worked hard and did a great job this week and Mahalo Follow is looking great.

There’s a lot of work to be done this week as Kristin and I prepare to head out to LA. (Please, let someone buy our place!)
