…but made for a woman. That’s one of the most well-known slogans in the commercials of my childhood. That and raise your hand if you’re sure.

Anyway, this week, I ran out of deodorant. Fortunately, sitting there on the shelf, was Kristin’s Secret. I used it for the past 3 days. It is strong enough for a man. … although it doesn’t quite smell like a man.

Anyway, the reason I wanted to post about this was because the first day when I realized I would have to use my wife’s deodorant, as my arm was reaching to the shelf to grab the stick, the last part of that slogan, “but made for a woman,” echoed through my head like some sort of mythic warning, and my hand hesitated for a moment as I stood there stunned, contemplating: A. Is there some weird curse that will fall upon me for using this deodorant? and B. How strong the modern mythos of the media is upon us that it makes rational men create odd superstitions in their pre-coffee morning daze while reaching for their wives’ deodorants.
