Today, after work, I went through my full boxing workout for the first time in over 5 years, and it feels good. I mean, I’m going to feel like hell tomorrow (already a bit sore behind my left shoulder blade), but it was a good stress-reliever.
I only managed about an hour long workout, which is severely curtailed from the full 3-hour workout of yesteryears, but it was my first time in quite some time. I started with jump rope. After the third time I stepped on the rope, I gave up. Then I did the ab-workout. I kept this part light as I wanted to be able to sit up in bed in the morning. Then I shadow-boxed and endurance boxed (punching with one arm non-stop for two minutes / till you cannot do it anymore, then switch arms).
After that, I put the gloves on and started hitting the heavy bag. The good news: I still have my power and speed. The bad news: my hands and wrists were feeling those punches and my endurance has gone seriously down hill. Then I ended with some more shadow boxing and some speed bag work sans gloves. I need to work on my footwork and my aim. I missed the moving punching ball a few times. That’s the most de-energizing thing in boxing. Throwing a punch that doesn’t land.
I’m going to be sore tomorrow, but I’m looking forward to Wednesday’s workout.
