Over the past two years, we’ve been leaking on and off on our downstairs neighbors. First it was a leak in the sink. We fixed the sink. Still a leak. It was then diagnosed as our tile job being sub par. We sealed everything up. It still leaked. Then we had a monster clog and it became evident that there was a gaping hole in the ancient drain pipe in the tub. We had that fixed. The leak disappeared . . . for about 6 months. Then for several months we are told that the leak isn’t from us, but from condensation in our downstairs neighbors unfinished bathroom. Then we are told, oh wait it is you. It’s the tile. So while we are away for our honeymoon we spent the extra money to have the entire bathroom retiled, rather than just fix the diagnosed problem area. We return to a beautifully new tiled bathroom, and a diagnosis by the tile guy that our sink faucet is leaking and needs replacement. Last night, I went to Home Depot and bought a new sink, installed it, and left everything unconnected underneath as I need a new drain pipe that will fit the new faucet.

Here’s where I get p.o.ed: Just a few minutes ago, Kristin finishes with her shower, and we receive a call from the downstairs neighbors saying that water is dripping from the ceiling. So, this confirms what I’ve suspected this entire time: the pipes need work. The pipes are in the wall, therefore, they are the co-ops responsibility. But what really bugs me is the continued misdiagnosis of the problem and all the money I’ve sunk into various resolutions. And now, our very nice newly tiled bathroom will have to be ripped apart to get to the real problem. Somebody other than me is paying for this and if I have anything to say about it they’re going to have to compensate us for all these unnecessary upgrades we’ve been performing per their advice. Grrr… //rant off
