If you don’t know what I am talking about, head over to Apple and check out all the new things.
The new G5 looks like a powerhouse of a machine, but it is ugly.
Very un-Apple in the aesthetic design. All the software offerings look
great. The new iChat, iChat A/V is available as a limited Beta download
now, and I like it. The audio sounds good on it, though I could not talk
back to my friend Jason, as I have no mic at work, and had to type. He
said the voice over IP ate up the processor on his G3 iBook though.
We’ll have a better idea about these features after we get to communicate
with audio and video both ways this weekend. Even if it didn’t have these
added bits of functionality, it is a step up. There are nice little
touches in the program that weren’t there before. For example, when you
are typing a message, the text window automatically resizes as you type so
that you can see the entirety of your post, complete with integrated
spellcheck, unlike the previous incarnation that forced you to scroll line
by line through longer chat messages to proof them. Also, if you click on
your icon, you get a pop-up window with all your recent pictures for easy
switching of your “identity.” You can also capture a current picture from
your DV camera or webcam. Speaking of webcams, check out the iSight:
It’s a little on the heftily-priced at $150 for a web-cam, but it is sleek,
stylish and ultra-portable. I want one. Also, final build of Safari 1.0 released today.
Works like a charm, fast and nice. Font handling seems to have changed somewhat from the last
build, and-alas-my work’s Lotus Notes based webmail still doesn’t work with Safari. I’d
bug report it, but the little bug is gone! NO!!!! 😉
Apple’s Announcements: my 2 cents…
