My brother’s family on the way to Dallas to visit for Xmas

I smoked a ham and baked a turkey and all ate too much with too many leftovers

So I neglected to take substantial pictures from yesterday, but we all had a good time, despite the vast majority of Xmas attendees having colds. I felt a bit overloaded, as I spent most of the day cooking. I had a spiral cut ham that I smoked outside on the grill with a creole mustard + brown sugar glaze, a pre-cooked turkey that I heated up in the oven, two loaves of bread, some mushrooms and onions cooked on the grill, and some broccoli that I ruined by overcooking. My mom brought over mashed potatoes, creamed spinach and a few other casseroles and iced tea. Everyone seemed to enjoy the food.

This morning, I took my brother’s family back to the airport and then I’ve spent most of the rest of the day cleaning up and having the kids pick up their stuff from around the house. I think I did well overall for my first solo Christmas post-divorce (I had the kids during the first Christmas during the separation, but my mom handled that one, so this was like extra big boy britches on). The kids liked all their gifts and I had a good time too.
